For your mental and physical well being.
Doctors are famous for saying that sleep is the single most important activity for good health, mental and physical. It helps your brain and your body recover from a day filled with anxiety and stress. It gives you the energy to start all over again the next day.
It's also be one of the hardest things to do when your stress level is through the roof! How are you supposed to sleep well when you're worried about all the things that keep you from finding peace in the first place?! Getting rid of those things is crucial. Much of this web site is devoted to that. But as you slowly work through those hardships, there are a few things you can try in the mean time. They’re not a cure, but they can help a great deal. By the way, NEVER use sleep medication without first consulting your doctor. A sleep study may be in order (you stay overnight in a sleep lab and they monitor you during sleep) before the doctor will prescribe anything.
Chamomile tea before bed really can help calm you and help you get to sleep. Magnesium may also help your muscles relax, but always consult your doctor before you take any supplement.

Shut off/put down any device with a screen at least one hour before bed! Read a book. Listen to music or calming sounds. Let your brain shut down.

Keep your bedroom cool and dark. OK, maybe not 63º, but whatever feels cool to you. 68º seems to work well for us.
Also try to stick to a steady schedule. Go to sleep and get up at the same time every night/morning. Even on weekends!

Try falling asleep to the sound of the ocean. It really works well for us. There are so many YouTube videos that offer nature sounds and calming music. Try them!
